Learning to Laugh
Hey friends!
I wanted to share a dumb story of something that happened to me today, that I thought you may enjoy laughing at.
We all do stupid things, and the faster you can laugh at yourself the quicker you will be able to not die of embarrassment at the first sign of trouble.
I had to come and get bloodwork done this morning. Not something I was looking forward to just as the process was one I knew nothing about and I was going to need to figure out. I waited about an hour just to start the registration process, once I was at the counter registering there was some issue with my insurance so the teller took my card to the back to resolve it. She was gone a while. While she was gone I pulled out my earbuds to listen to a message before putting them back in their case and ATTEMPTING to replace them in my bag. I missed…. I dropped them on the floor and both earbuds flew out of the case and under the desk in front of me. The desk was a long counter, with divisions along it, I couldn’t see over it let alone get over there. The waiting area was directly behind me, full of countless people who just witnessed what I had done. Two months ago I would have probably died of embarrassment, at having done something so clumsy in such a public place, I actually laughed though. I laughed and asked the teller next to where I was seated if she could grab my earbuds on the floor. She couldn’t find them…. So she is under the desk looking and the people behind me are pointing and telling her where to look. This went on for a while before someone else walked behind the teller and found them far on the other side of the desk where they had bounced. She handed them to me and we all laughed.
Laughing at yourself is not easy to do. I think for some of us it is even harder, it is certainly not something that comes quickly. I have always been a pretty self-conscious and somewhat insecure person who detests doing anything that would draw attention to myself. Thankfully, the Lord has continued to work in my life and helped change my perspective and teach me to laugh and even to enjoy the laughter.
